Artist's Story - Journey through the years
Clancy Browne (now van Aalst) was born in Hahndorf, South Australia and raised in the outback art town of Broken Hill, NSW. She now resides in Adelaide's inner west.
Influenced by her father Peter Browne, she grew up immersed in his gallery of Vegemite paintings, emus, and outback bush scenes. Her eye for colour palettes and love of textiles were inherited from her mother Miriam.
Early memories of travellers, "creek people", and artists shaped her unique perspective and instinct towards a creative, multicultural, and adventurous lifestyle.
Her style is largely shaped by years spent in India, with her deepest inspiration being the Bengali School of Art style, the work and philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore and his students.
With a fascination for contrasting textures, through earthy colour palettes and emotional depth, she captures the soul of her subjects.
